CORNWALL HOLIDAYS IN APRIL

It’s April. The clocks have jumped forwards, welcoming lighter evenings and warmer days. Spring is well and truly in bloom, and Cornwall’s beaches are starting to feel the buzz of visitors itching to get their feet in the sand. April in Cornwall is a happy time, full of sunshine, calm waters and delicious food. Here’s our top things to do during April.

Watch watersports at Watergate

April kicks starts Watergate Bay’s busy calendar of beach events. The world-famous surfing beach welcomes Legend of the Bay, a weekend of high adrenaline watersports such as kitesurfing and stand-up paddle boarding, followed by the English National Surf Championships. It’s guaranteed to be an action-packed month- just grab a pew on the sand and watch the competition unfold.

…or give it a go yourself

Watch the pros from the shoreline or give it a go yourself at one of Cornwall’s many watersports schools. Watergate Bay’s Extreme Academy offers surfing, kitesurfing, SUP lessons and hire. Or try King Surf at Mawgan Porth, Newquay Activity CentreSt Ives Surf School on Porthmeor Beach, and Sennen Surfing Centre.

A Cornish Easter

Cornwall is a great place to spend Easter: abundant with countryside and sandy beaches, you’ll often see lambs bounding across fields, sea pinks swaying in the breeze and Spring birds migrating towards the warming ocean swell. Many Easter events take place across the county, such as the Eden Project’s annual easter egg hunt. The National Trust’s various properties and gardens also come into their own in spring, with many putting on Easter egg hunts throughout their grounds.

Set sail

April’s warmer climates and calm conditions make it the perfect time to take to the water, whether it’s a pleasure boat ride, fishing trip, or even trying your hand at sailing. Cornwall is abundant in harbours and ports offering regular trips out on the water. Head to Newquay Harbour for mackerel fishing and speed boat rides- just be sure to say hello to the local seals who like to bob around in the harbour in the hope of some spare fish going!
