On route you will pass fields of wildflowers which line the coastal path down towards the cove. Porthcothan is one of Cornwall's secret bays, a deep inlet surrounded by rocky headlands with a big expanse of sand at low tide. This tiny coastal village has a lovely hidden quality; it has remained largely undeveloped and provides an 'away from it all' feel.
There are eleven beaches all within a 5-20 minute drive of Porthcothan. You'll find Porthcothan beach is quieter than many of the better-known beaches with a focus on playing on the sand and in the sea. Around the corner is the more popular Treyarnon Bay, a beautiful golden sanded beach with a coast path leading to panoramic views over Constantine Bay.
Just a short drive from Porthcothan is Padstow with its picturesque harbour and Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant. Watergate Bay and its array of restaurants are just 15 minutes away by car and Newquay a little further, with great shopping, beach activities and all kinds of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
