  • The surroundings

Gwynver Beach House sits in the far South West of Cornwall, overlooking the rugged Gwynver Beach just along the coast path from Sennen Cove.

Dog friendly year-round and renowned as one of the best surfing beaches in the country, Gwynver Beach is a secluded sandy beach, joining with Sennen Cove at low tide to form Whitesands Bay. Reached via a short path directly opposite Gwynver Beach House, this little-known beach is never too crowded, yet still benefits from the security of lifeguard cover between May and September. Walk here from Gwynver Beach House in just a few minutes and enjoy all-day access to the sand. From here, you can hike the beautiful stretch of coast path to Sennen Cove, passing surfers, dolphins and panoramic vistas.

Classically Cornish in landscape, with a magical ‘edge of the world’ feel, the endless white sands and turquoise waters of Sennen Cove gives the area a distinctly Mediterranean flavour. A paradise for surfers, sun-worshipers and families, Sennen Cove has been voted as one of Britain's best blue flag beaches by Condé Nast Traveller. If you're looking for a corner of Cornwall far from the hectic pace of modern life, then Sennen Cove is where you'll find it.

Here, it's all about the simple things: a morning sea dip, a long coast path walk, a pub lunch with a sea view. Order in handline caught fish and seafood from Sennen Boathouse Stores and pick up on your arrival. Sennen Surfing Centre and Smart’s Surf School are great choices for individual and group lessons, suited to both beginner surfers and the more advanced.

The magnificent West Cornwall coastline offers a heavenly experience for walkers. Seasoned and casual hikers will relish direct access to the South West Coast Path, voted the best coastal path in the country. Set off south from Gwynver to Land's End via Sennen Cove; or head north via Cot Valley, to the historic tin mining landscape at Cape Cornwall. Alternatively, venture inland to Carn Euny, one of the best-preserved ancient villages in the South West.

Nearby, discover the Cornish icons of the Minack Theatre and St Michael's Mount. St Ives is a short drive away, with the famous Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, great shopping and lively cafe and restaurant culture. Even closer is Mousehole, with its rich fishing history and Michelin recommended restaurants.

Iconic moments shared

"Brilliant place. It’s remote but we wanted that. The beach below is beautiful and quiet, The house is spacious and each room having its own en-suite is a huge bonus if you are a big family. It’s also really soundproof so was handy to be up with my young kids and not wake the rest of the house up. If you surf it’s a brilliant spot as Gwynver is a great spot that works well when it’s small everywhere else. And the footpath over to Sennen cove is about 30-40 minute walk and completely stunning. All in all a really incredible home, perfect for an active family of wanting to be amongst the beautiful nature of the far south west. Thanks so much for a really memorable trip."

"We had a great week at Gwynver Beach House. We came to celebrate a family members 50th birthday and we couldn't have picked a better spot, lovely coastal walks all nearby and handy to catch the coastline bus. We also visited Trevdra Farm Campsite for meals and supplies. The house is amazing, we all enjoyed staying and we hope to return soon."

"We had a fantastic holiday, the house was perfect for a joint 40th and 70th Birthday celebration. We even struck lucky with the weather! "

"The annual family holiday had a beautiful setting. The weather was perfect for beach walks, sea swims and surfing lessons. We enjoyed the views and ship spotting and would love to come back."

"A fabulous week in a stunning location. Gwynver Beach House is a lovely property with everything we needed. We enjoyed the dramatic changes in weather from thick sea mist to brilliant sunshine. On a clear day you can see the Isles of Scilly on the horizon. "

"What a place! A beautifully designed, welcoming and comfortable space. Ideal for families or groups to relax and enjoy the luxurious accomodation with stunning views. We have thoroughly enjoyed visiting St.Ives by train from Penzance, Marazion, St Michael's Mount, Mousehole and Lands End. The real highlights were Minack Theatre and the Barbara Hepworth museum, which are a must for visitors."

"We've just come home from the most wonderful stay at Gwynver Beach House. The house is beautifully situated and its energy is incredible with it's huge windows and ever changing scenery where the light shines through giving it a relaxing atmosphere. The house is spacious and has all the state of the art amenities as well as being cosy. We will definitely be coming back."

"Really stunning location. There is a short walk to the footpaths that take you to Gwynver and Sennen beaches. Beach Retreats were very accommodating to support our groups need with babies and toddlers - with nice touches in the house like lots of good children's books."

"Wonderful property that offered everything it said it would. Cannot recommend this property enough and hope to go back again soon."

"Gwynver Beach House was everything it promised and more. With the most incredible views, plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces to relax with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. It had all the home comforts you could wish for. We loved the outside barbecue and eating al fresco with the ocean in the background. With the beach on our doorstep, it was perfect for an early morning dip or walk on a fabulous secluded sandy beach. It really is an idyllic place to stay and we can’t wait to return."

"A superb two weeks spent in most amazing place, thoroughly enjoyed by all. We especially loved the beach directly below. Special summer memories."

"What a lovely time we all had in Gwynver Beach House. The most gorgeous and comforting space with everything we need for our family. We loved going to the beach and Lands End! "

"What an amazing and completely perfect space to escape to - beautiful rooms, fantastic indoor and outdoor living spaces (plural!), views to die for with a lovely winding walk to the beach and kitted out with everything a family (or in our case a large group of friends!) could need! We had a wonderful long weekend here and can highly recommend it as a very special secret getaway, with something for everyone!"

"I spent a wonderful weekend here with a great group of seven friends. The house is gorgeous and you instantly feel at home. The space is great for being together with nooks and crannies for some alone time - you never get enough of the view. Thoroughly recommend this place and can’t wait to return!"
