  • The surroundings

Gaia has the best of both worlds. Privacy and tranquillity prevail in the high walls of the retreat, with your main outdoor spaces overlooking secluded sand dunes. Step outside the gate and you’re in the heart of the beach action with local family-friendly facilities including a surf hire only moments away as well as a beach café for brunching, lunching and coffee fixes. Plus, direct access to the coast path means sunset rambles or day-long stomps are yours for the taking.

Soak up the ambience of Black Rock Beach, the wild south end of Widemouth Bay, with rugged rocks, crashing waves, sunrises, sunsets, gulls, beach walkers and more. Kick back and watch from the comfort of your sofa or balcony, get stuck in the surf with a board, or spread out as a family and each do as you please.

Widemouth Bay is a long unspoilt stretch of sandy beach and craggy cliffs that’s all about space – a 'big sky' feel and an endless horizon. In Cornwall's northern corner near the coastal town of Bude, this stretch of coastline is known for its great surf and watersports. With lifeguard cover through the summer season, Widemouth is a great spot for beginners and more seasoned surfers alike. The bay has a relaxed atmosphere, with a handful of pubs and cafes and friendly locals. It’s also the dream destination for those wanting to get away from it all, with rural peace, countryside views and coast paths for miles either side.

Only three miles away, Bude has plenty of restaurants and a wide range of shops, from essential supermarkets to surf and lifestyle stores. If you're looking for adrenaline-fuelled fun, there are all kinds of activities on offer nearby, including coasteering, surf, windsurf and kitesurf lessons, stand up paddleboarding, bike hire, canoeing and kayaking.

Iconic moments shared

"Gaia is an amazing house! Sea views from everywhere and that beach on your doorstep. We really enjoyed the location close to pubs and café’s but also loved the privacy of the garden and the fact you are not overlooked. The keyless entry makes staying at the house so easy without having to worry about keys! The hot-tub and sauna were so nice to relax and warm up in after a beach or cliff walk. The owners seem to have thought of everything and the amenities are all in as-new condition. See you next year!"

"The location was stunning! Gaia more than lived up to our expectations. It was so roomy and comfortable. We loved having keyless entry. It made it so easy for everyone to come and go as they pleased and it was very well equipped with comfy beds and great showers. A superb family coastal experience."

"The beach is just a few steps away. With so much to do including the sauna, cinema and hot tub, you rarely feel the need to venture out. The pubs and a shop are a short walk on the coastal footpath if desired though. Gaia is full of thoughtful touches like the electric car charging point, outside shower, wetsuit rack etc. Highly recommended."

"Gaia is a contemporary house but with cosy spaces to ensure people of all ages get the space they need. There is so much to keep everyone entertained, there was never a dull moment in our holiday beside the sea. Surf and wetsuit rentals as well as surfing lessons are available close by. "

"This is a very special place that my family will return to again and again. It is a haven from the busy-ness of many coastal locations. The views are simply breath-taking and the house is luxuriously appointed with every detail taken care of. I could just sit and watch the surfers from the lounge or one of the terraces all day!"

"It was a joy sometimes to simply watch the waves roll in and the ebb and flow of the tide. My family of six had an amazing stay. The garden is private and great for sunbathing or for younger children to play safely. You can walk to three different pubs/restaurants if desired but we rarely ate out. The house is such a pleasure to stay in and the views from the dining table are stunning!"
