Surfing at Croyde Bay
Croyde Bay is renowned for its excellent surfing conditions, attracting surfers from all over the world. Croyde is part of the 18 miles of coastline which has been formally recognised as a world surfing reserve, joining 11 other stretches of the coast around the world including Malibu, Noosa and Hawaii. It’s the first in the UK and only the second one in Europe, the other being Portugal. With its consistent waves and beautiful sandy beach, it’s the perfect spot for both beginners and experienced surfers.
There’s plenty of local surf schools offering lessons and equipment rentals, such as Surfing Croyde Bay. After your session, grab lunch or a coffee at one of Croyde’s many beachfront hangouts.
Coastal walks
Hop on the South West Coast Path for breathtaking coastal walks with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. A popular route is the walk from Croyde to Baggy Point, a National Trust site known for its dramatic cliffs and panoramic vistas, alongside birdwatching and wildflower spotting opportunities. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its geological features. An easy, level walk, the trail is suitable for all fitness levels, and the fresh sea air and beautiful scenery make it a must-do activity.

Croyde is ideally located for exploring other attractions in North Devon. A short drive away is the historic village of Clovelly, famous for its steep cobbled streets and picturesque harbour. For families, The Big Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Park provide fun-filled days out with rides, shows, and animal encounters.
Wildlife watching
Nature lovers will enjoy the abundant wildlife in and around Croyde. The nearby Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Birdwatchers can spot various species along the coast and in the surrounding countryside.
