Lowenna Merritt in our marketing team talks fond memories of childhood holidays in Sennen and having just as much fun there now.
Sennen is a lovely little village with a proper ‘Cornish’ feel and a huge sandy beach. For our holidays when I was young we used to travel across the county to spend it here in Sennen: it felt like a totally different place. I had so much fun then and enjoy it just as much now.
This is a really beautiful stretch of coast where the water is super turquoise and you often see dolphins. The beach scooped a Seaside Award in 2024 for the local community’s commitment to environment, water quality and safety.
I also love how spacious the beach is, so no matter the time of year you can always walk a little further along and find a quiet spot to sit.
That’s matched by some seriously big swells! Down in the village it can feel calm, but walk along the coast path towards Gwynver Beach and you’ll often see pro surfers out the back catching some huge waves. I’m more of a sea swimmer myself, but there’s a surf school in the car park for anyone keen to get in and learn a new skill.
For a great Sennen day out, I would bring my mum, dad and brother, so that we could go on a long coastal walk and reminisce about happy times we’ve had here.
But I would probably start my ideal day with a morning swim in the harbour where the water is nice and calm. Afterwards, I’d spend a while wandering the village, enjoying a coffee and breakfast bap from Sennen Cove Café, and having a look in The Round House Gallery. It’s a unique circular art gallery which is always worth a visit.
Then we’d hit the South West Coast Path, before enjoying a pub dinner and a refreshing pint at The Old Success Inn, a 17th century pub on the seafront. For dinner, there’s also the tempting option of some of the best fish and chips I’ve had in Cornwall from The Blue Lagoon.
