Watergate Bay always feels so vast, endless. At low tide there’s miles of the softest most beautiful white sand. It was the first beach I visited on my first ever visit to Cornwall – and it’s still one of my favourite ones.
That’s probably because it has everything you need: there’s a cold freshwater stream for the kids to play in and dogs to get a drink, plenty of eateries to choose from, water sports, caves and plenty of rock pools to explore when the tide is low. It’s easy to get to as well, with plenty of space to park up.
On top of that, there’s events on the beach throughout the year, adding even more into the mix, like Arts on the Beach, volleyball and surfing competitions.
Who’s coming?
My family! It’s such a diverse beach that has something for everyone, even the pup.
The ideal day would be exploring the caves and rock pools, a little surf, some food at The Beach Hut or the Beach Bar at the top of the slip road, then a look around the great beach shop. At the end of the day, perhaps a sundowner in the Living Space at the Watergate Bay Hotel.
The coast path here offers some great walks too, northwards to Mawgan Porth or south towards Porth and Newquay.
